Manyani: The Challenge
Thursday, March 1, 2007 at 10:04 | In Manyani | Leave a Comment“It must be remembered that there is nothing more difficult to plan, more doubtful of success nor more dangerous to manage than the creation of a new system. For the initiator has the enmity of all who profit by the preservation of the old institution and merely lukewarm defenders in those who would gain by the new one.” – Niccolo Machiavelli
This statement summarises my experience in the world of projects.
Niccolo’s book should be aptly renamed to War & Systems.
Went to work one day and realised I’d lost my modjo. Just couldn’t do it anymore. I work in a sweatshop literally speaking. My pal Quadimoso an established coder introduced me to the workings of the sweatshop. Unlike me he had the guts to just walk out and become a modern day Columbus. (You never discover new lands if you don’t lose sight of the shore).
I recently started reading The Art of War & The Prince by Machiavelli (not Tupac Shakur) as a way of trying to get the modjo back. I will not indulge into the book as am not a scolar. The more I read it the more it dawned on me that “Either war is obsolete or men are.” – Buckminster Fuller
It’s not that I have lost my modjo it just happens that when I report to the sweatshop it goes. I just don’t feel challenged any more and its a war out there if I want to earn the recognition and respect of my peers. Then I can be obsolete
As George Patton said -”It is the unconquerable nature of man and not the nature of the weapon he uses that ensures victory.” I decided to change tact adopt the new and perfect on the old.
